FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I drop my child off, or do I need to stay?

This is completely up to you. There is a café on site if you would like to stay nearby, you are welcome to stay and participate with your child, or you may watch from the back of the room. You are also free to leave for the duration of the session. If you do leave the site, please ensure Sarah has your phone number in case of emergency.

Does my child need to bring anything?

No, all materials and resources required for the workshop will be provided. After the workshop, you will also receive a WA curriculum alignment sheet via email, which can be used as evidence for your homeschool moderator if required.

What should my child wear or bring?

Please send your child with:

  • A water bottle

  • Clothes they don’t mind getting messy

Is the space allergy-aware or nut-free?

Yes, the workshop is allergy-aware; however, as we use a shared space and some investigations may involve food or chemicals, parents must disclose any allergies or intolerances in advance. You will also be informed ahead of time about any materials being used, but please note we cannot guarantee what may have been in the shared space prior to our session.

How long is each session?

Each session runs for 60 minutes and is broken into smaller, engaging activities to suit children’s attention spans. Children are welcome to take a break if needed — they simply need to let me know.

Where are the toilets?

Toilets are located in the building near the café. Children can access them whenever needed.

Will my child be working individually or in groups?

Both options are available. Children will have opportunities to work independently and in a variety of group sizes throughout the workshop. All students will have access to their own materials, and there is no pressure regarding how they choose to participate.

Who is running the workshop?

The workshop is run by me, Sarah Turner, owner of Turner Education. Sarah has been a teacher for 15 years, is a mother of three, and is passionate about making science engaging, safe, and enjoyable for every child. She holds full Police Checks and a Working With Children Check (WWCC).

Is the workshop hands-on or lecture-based?

The workshops are entirely hands-on. There are no lectures, textbooks, or worksheets — just interactive science experiences designed to actively engage children in learning.

Are the activities educational or just for fun?

Both. While the sessions are highly engaging and enjoyable, they are also carefully designed to teach meaningful scientific concepts about the topics covered, all sessions are designed to link to the WA curriculum.

Which room will the workshop be in at the Baldivis Indoor Complex?

The south pavilion, outside of the main complex.

What should we expect on the day?

Sarah will greet you and your child at the door and provide a name label for your child. You’ll then have time to settle in, explore the room, or take a seat before the session begins. Once everyone has arrived, the workshop will commence.
